Community and school spirit were everywhere on Thurs. May 24 at Immaculate Heart of Mary’s School Fair.

This year’s theme was “Carnival” and there was definitely a Carnival theme in the air. With the sun shining well into the evening, students, staff and local community members participated in lots of different festivities.

To keep the children occupied, a bouncy castle was available, much to their delight.

A balloon artist intricately twisted and manipulated balloons into lots of different creations and the Grade 8 students put their artistic skills to the test by offering their face painting services.

A photo booth was available with photo props that allowed students to capture the evening by taking home a memorable photo as a souvenir.

The Centennial Colts Sports Camps demonstrated their soccer skills and participants were able to try out these newfound skills in an obstacle course.

Students with a green thumb were offered the chance to plant seeds in a growing pot and beautiful potted plants were available for purchase.

For those who like to shop, local vendors displayed their goods in the school gymnasium with something there for everyone. There were unique jewellery pieces at an affordable price, natural beauty products for sale and aromatic candles and soaps.

Personalised books with a percentage of the profits going to help children in impoverished countries were also on hand as well as kits for hand-raising butterflies.

Finally, students were able to purchase school spirit wear with the IHMS school logo and motto “Learn, Grow and Belong in Faith” on it and participate in a uniform exchange.

Lots of food and treats made sure that no one went hungry. From the ice cream van parked at the school gates, to hot dogs, hamburgers, a bake table, fruit cups and cotton candy.

While the children frantically tried to guess the amount of goods in the guessing jars, the adults filled out ballots for the raffle; one of the evening’s highlights. Local businesses and families had generously donated gift cards, Blue Jays tickets, wine and cheese baskets and much more.

This year’s Carnival was an enormous success for so many reasons. The students, staff, parents and local community members truly showed what community spirit is all about. We can hardly wait for next year’s event!
