By Leon Korbee

The NHL is coming to Birch Cliff on Saturday, July 5th.

Yes, you read that correctly.

NHL player and Scarborough native Wayne Simmonds is holding his third annual  charitable event called Wayne’s Road Hockey Warriors at Scarborough Gardens Arena at the corner of Birchmount and Kingston Road.

Lots of star power

The Philadelphia Flyer winger will be joined by some major NHL star power including Stanley Cup winning LA King Drew Doughty, Tyler Seguin from the Dallas Stars, Devante Smith-Pelley from Anaheim, Michael Del Zotto and many more  NHL players.

For a good cause

The event organized by the Philadelphia Flyer star raises money for kids and their parents who have trouble paying for the high costs of competitive hockey.

Hockey is indeed an expensive sport and the proceeds from Simmond’s event helps players in house league, select or A hockey play the game they love but can not always afford.

Registration to play in the road hockey tournament, which starts at 8am, is already full with 80 registered youth.

But you can also support the event by coming out to watch.

Autographs available

In addition to the tournament for the kids, there will be autographs, raffles, a skills competition and the day will culminate with a celebrity game featuring all of the NHL players at 2pm.

The charity is also seeking nominations of deserving  kids who YOU think should be financially sponsored for the upcoming season.
