Our latest mural is done!

"Tudor Birch Grove"

The east wall of Wimpy’s is sure looking a whole lot better now that artist Sarah Collard has finished the third in a series of murals designed to improve the streetscape of Birch Cliff.

“Tudor Birch Grove”

The mural is called “Tudor Birch Grove” and it’s a romantic look back to a time when Birch Cliff  was full of farmers fields and birch trees.  The design is an invitation to use your imagination, step on the gravel path and walk back into history.

The horse on the right is a nod to The Hunt Club, which moved into Birch Cliff in 1895.  It was established by British Army officers from Fort York and was used for equestrian activities before it was a golf club.

About the artist

Artist Sarah Collard was commissioned by Mural Routes, which is on a campaign to spruce up the neighbouhood.

Working with OCAD student Megg MacLeod, the mural took seven days to finish.

They used simple exterior paint and a clear coat with a UV filter to prevent the mural from disintegrating in the sun.

More to come?

That’s it for the three murals that were planned for Birch Cliff this year.  Mural routes executive director says going further will depend on future funding and is planning on hosting a community meeting this fall.
