Quarry Survey & Meeting

Build Toronto’s proposed development in the Quarry

Wanted:  Your thoughts on the Quarry.

Community input on the Quarry Lands is being sought by the advocacy group Concerned Citizens of Quarry Lands Development prior to its Annual General Meeting on Wed. Jan. 23rd.

The CCQLD has posted an online survey to gauge community reaction to the Build Toronto proposal to construct a low-rise housing development on the west portion of  the Quarry.

Build Toronto is proposing the construction of 200 low-rise houses surrounding a 4.5 acre park. The plan also includes a retail component (likely big box retail) that would be located at Victoria Park south of the railroad tracks, where the Beach Fairway Golf range was formerly situated.

Another OMB loss for community

Another reason for the CCQLD survey has to do with news from the other side of the Quarry lands, where Gerrard Clonmore Developments (GCD) has proposed a highly unpopular high-rise tower complex.

At the same time that Build Toronto was proposing low rise housing, GCD went before the Ontario Municipal Board on a procedural matter related to its zoning rights for high-rise towers.

The CCQLD represented the community and spoke against the GCD position, but once again the OMB ruled in favour of the developer.

All of this increases the importance of the upcoming Annual General Meeting, to be held  on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013 at Birchcliff Bluffs United Church, 33 East Road, at 7:30 pm.

Fill out the survey

Here’s where the survey comes in.

The CCQLD wants the survey results to be available at the meeting and is asking residents of the community to click here and fill out the form.  The survey consists of 10 questions and is confidential.

If possible, CCQLD has  requested that residents of the community provide their input before this coming Sunday, Jan. 13th.
