City Services, Flood Coverage, Photo of the Day

Photo of the Day July 27, 2012

Our Photo(s) of the Day for July 27, 2012 may please residents of Crescentwood and Kildonan, but will probably leave the folks on Haig Avenue fuming.

The two sinkholes on Crescentwood and Kildonan, which were created by the flood on July 15th, have been fixed.

The two sinkholes on Haig have not been fixed.  One of them has been there almost two months and neighbours have called 311 repeatedly to ask for repairs.

Makes you wonder why the city wouldn’t fix them all at once, considering they’re in the neighbourhood anyway.

It’s a different story on Haig.  Here’s the before picture of the bigger sinkhole that developed almost two months ago.  It was taken on July 18th.

Here’s the before shot of the smaller sinkhole on Haig that developed after the storm.

Here’s the after shot of the same sinkhole.  As you can see, all that’s changed is the number of pylons.

Easy answer…they live south of Kingston Road. As I said before Courcelette and Fallingbrook have speed bumps along their main school passage. We were denied them along Freeman from Warden to Birchcliff, our main school passage. Last year we ended up with a 9ft by 30 foot sink hole with water main break and no water. City would said they might be there in 24 hours despite us having no water and the sink hole a danger. They showed up in 18mins (we timed) after we called and let them know that the Toronto Star was investigating the situation.

Hey Lisa – I remember the sinkhole on Freeman. We had a large sinkhole in front of our house too about a year ago. The neighbour called the city and they were reluctant to come because it was the evening and 311 asked if a person could fit inside of it. My neighbour said “Ten people can fit inside of it!” They put up pylons that night and fixed it the next day. If one holds to your theory about north of Kingston Rd vs. south, however, you need to keep in mind that all four of these sinkholes are on the south. We’ll keep tracking it…the folks on Haig are unimpressed.
