Man killed at Clonmore and Queensbury

A man believed to be in his mid-thirties has died in hospital after being struck by a vehicle on Clonmore Drive, west of Queensbury Avenue.

Toronto Police Sgt. Daniel Vega said the victim was a worker at the Clonmore Urban Towns construction site on the eastern edge of The Quarry, where the road takes a sharp curve.

According to Vega, the victim was holding a stop sign, directing westbound traffic on Clonmore, when he was hit by a driver at 3:50 pm.

“We assume he didn’t see him because he hit him full on, from what the witnesses were saying,” Vega said.

The man was taken to St. Michael’s Hospital on an emergency run, where he succumbed to his injuries.  He has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

At this point, Vega said there is no indication that the driver was speeding or intoxicated.

The scene is blocked off while traffic services conducts its investigation.

The is a developing story that will be updated as events warrant.

Sincere condolences to the family. The sun is very strong in your eyes when driving west at that time of day. Such a tragedy.

Normally if you can’t see because of the sun.. you slow down, use the sun visor, put on sunglasses and pay fricken attention.. there’s no reason this should happen. The family and so many people have been heartbroken because of the carelessness of 1 person. Of course speed is a factor, that windshield is destroyed.. SLOW DOWN! This man should have gone home to his family at the end of his work day. Beyond pissed.
